(R)-(-)-2-Cyclododecylpropanol - strongly ambergris-like/woody with dominating ambergris character and linear scent development. Intensity: very strong, significantly stronger than racemic product

Ref: Ebel, Klaus; Krause, Wolfgang; Schafer-Luderssen, Ulrich; (+)- And (-)-2-cyclododecylpropanol and (+)- and (-)-2-cyclododecylpropionic acid and the preparation and use thereof, United States Patent 6495729 (Dec. 17, 2002)

The racemic mixture is also known as Amberwood® - a trademark of BASF and Hydroxyambran® - a trademark of Fragrance Resources Agency SA.

(S)-(+)-2-Cyclododecylpropanol - very weak, virtually odorless

The virtually odorless (+)-enantiomer (Woody-linear, no significant scent facets) is advantageously suitable as a fixative for other fragrances. It provides for a long-lasting adhesion, without adversely affecting the intrinsic odor of the adhering fragrance by a strong odor of its own.
